Inspired by my journey to the South

COMING 2022!

Inspired by my journey to the South in North Carolina from the North in Vancouver, Canada.

Uniquely created

The Haint Collection is inspired by my journey to the South. I was born and raised in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and made my way to Kings Mountain via Seattle,, Washington.
We have since moved to Union Grove, NC, where my new studio is being established. Before we left the Pacific Northwest, I was introduced to Haints through a book I read based in Black Mountain, NC.

While researching the origins of Haints, the more I read, the more fascinated I became. I was unaware that there was a correlation between Haints and the color blue.
When we moved to the South, I noticed that many porch ceilings and shutters were painted a calming shade of blue. At the time I did not realize there was a historic reason behind using the color, let alone a folklore tied to it.

As I researched, I found out more about the Southern folklore and tradition and decided it was the perfect idea for a Signature Jewelry Line.

Haints

The Haint folklore and tradition began in the Gullah culture in the low country of South Carolina. Haints were believed to be a restless spirit or ghost that had not moved on from earth, and could not cross a body of water.

By painting the porch ceiling, shutters and or trim with blue, a Haint Blue, it would fool and keep evil spirits from crossing into the house. The Haint Blue color was meant to protect the home and its occupants from evil. This Southern folklore became a tradition of painting the porch ceiling blue, handed down from generation to generation.

The mystery of the folklore and my love for aqua and teal colored gemstones that I currently use in my jewelry, lead me to the idea of creating a line solely with these stones. Allegra Nichole Designs “The Haint Collection” is a unique combination of natural stones such as Amazonite, Aquamarine, Apatite, Jasper, Turquoise, Agate with Sterling Silver, Pearls and Czech Glass Beads.
